Chats were conducted with two or three guests, there were comic inserts and a musical performance rounded off the show (although sometimes a musical performance may have started the show a well). The Cafe completed transmission of its fifth season on 27 March 2009. A sixth season was revealed on 14 August 2009 by Aidan Power to be on the way.[13] The last ever episode was broadcast on 2 April 2010 due to its axing by RTÉ to make way for new programming.[14]

Season five (2008–2009)

For season five, Aidan Power's co-presenter Liam McCormack left for pastures new and was replaced by nobody as Power became the show's sole presenter. The comedian Alan McElroy joined the show as Chef, whilst Avril Kelly returned as the waitress and baked Power a cake with his face on it to celebrate the launch of the new season.[96] The 7 November episode marked a new era for the show as it began broadcasting on Fridays for the first time. Music was provided by Republic of Loose, Mundy, The Flaws, Fight Like Apes, Dirty Epics, The Saw Doctors, Ham Sandwich, The Blizzards and The Coronas. Olympian Kenny Egan produced his silver medal.[97] Economist George Lee was shown predicting doom and gloom sixteen years earlier [98] Colm & Jim-Jim appeared to promote their game show Colm and Jim-Jim's Home Run, with Colm eating pork brains weeks before the Irish pork crisis of 2008 occurred. He was later invited back onto the show to play the Celebrity Darts section he was denied, scoring a total of 25.[99] Pat Kenny featured on the night of The Late Late Toy Show where he encountered the mimicry of Oliver Callan who took on the persona of Kenny and his predecessor Gay Byrne.[100] Louis Walsh had a dig at Power's other presentation job by sarcastically asking if Winning Streak was still on the air when Power insisted the viewers should have been watching him instead of Walsh on The X Factor. Later in the same episode Vanessa Feltz discussed a dream Power had had in which she had heavily featured.[101] The Infomatics played an exclusive live track for the show's viewers on 13 March 2009.[102] Ryle Nugent guested on 20 March 2009 to talk about Ireland's attempt to win the 2009 Six Nations Championship Grand Slam.[103] The final episode of the fifth series was broadcast on 27 March 2009, featuring guests such as Eamon Dunphy and John Bishop, with music from Republic of Loose and a new Louis Walsh girlband.[104]
